Honda CB200X And Hornet 2.0 | Similarities And Differences

Honda has launched their most budget-friendly ADV, the CB200X. Based on the Honda Hornet 2.0, it shares a lot in common with the commuter. The CB200X will have only one rival, the Hero Xpulse 200, which actually is a true offroader and is the most budget-friendly offroader in the country. But we won’t be comparing the two in this article, stay tuned for it. Today, we’ll be seeing what all the ADV shares with the commuter and what is different. 

What do the Honda CB200X and Hornet 2.0 have in common?

1. The frame and the powertrain

   CB200X and Hornet 2.0 share the same diamond-type frame and have the same 184.4cc single-cylinder engine. The sub-200cc petrol engine is capable of churning out 17.3ps of power at 8,500rpm and a peak torque of 16.1Nm at 6,000rpm. Both come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and have a multiplate wet clutch.

2. Suspension and Brakes

   The commuter and the ADV, both have the same suspension setup with Upside-Down (USD) forks at the front and mono-shock at the rear. Both of them get single-channel ABS with wavy disc brakes at both ends. The front gets a 276mm disc while the rear has a 220mm disc. 

3. Fuel tank capacity

   Sharing the same frame comes with sharing the same fuel tank capacity. Both of the bikes have a 12L fuel tank capacity. 

4. Ground clearance

   Even though we thought that the ADV might have better ground clearance, both CB200X and Honda Hornet 2.0 have a ground clearance of 167mm. Honda calls the CB200X an urban explorer for which the ground clearance is adequate.

5. Instrument cluster

   Both of the bikes have a negative display instrument cluster with five levels of adjustments for brightness. The display has two trip meters, a battery voltage meter, and a gear-position indicator along with the basic stuff. 

So, is there anything different on the CB200X other than the looks?

1. Weight and Seat Height

   While the powertrain has been kept the same, all that extra fairing has added 5kgs to the overall weight of the Honda CB200X. The Urban Explorer weighs 147kgs while the Hornet 2.0 is 142kg heavy. The CB200X has a seat height of 810mm while the Hornet 2.0 gets 795mm of it.

2. Windscreen and indicator-mounted knuckle guards

   Hornet 2.0 being a commuter does not require these. The CB200X on the other hand has a windscreen at the front and knuckle guards at the handle with indicators. 

3. Riding position and handlebar

   A rider sits more upright on the CB200X and the handlebar is also wider and placed above the Hornet 2.0. This makes the riding posture a bit more inclined towards an ADV. 

4. Color options

   While the Hornet 2.0 is offered in four color options, namely, Matte Axis Grey Metallic, Matte Marvel Blue Metallic, Matte Sangria Red Metallic, and Pearl Igneous Black, the CB200X is being offered in three shades only. The color options at Honda CB200X are Matte Selene Silver Metallic, Pearl Nightstar Black, and Sports Red. Don’t you guys think that Honda should name the color options a bit small? 

5. Price

   Now, the Honda Hornet 2.0 comes at an ex-showroom price of ₹1,30,000 and ₹1,32,606 for the Repsol Edition. Being a sub-200cc bike, it might be priced a bit on the higher side. The CB200X has been priced at ₹1,44,500 which is ₹14,500 costlier than the Hornet 2.0. 

6. Tires Tread

   Although the tires are of the same size on both bikes, the CB200X gets more blocks and patterns for better grip.
