You must have gone through various comparisons of Mahindra XUV700 with the Tata Safari or Hyundai Alcazar. But, it’s time we compare it with a compact SUV that surprisingly comes in the same price range. The segment leader, Hyundai Creta has been a choice of many car buyers but with the ultra-aggressive pricing of Mahindra XUV700, there will surely be a second thought while choosing a car. To make things easy for you, here’s a comparison of Mahindra XUV700 vs Hyundai Creta.

First of all, which variants are we comparing today?

Mahindra has not released the prices of all the variants yet. So, we’ll be considering the AdrenoX AX5 variant for the XUV700. For the Hyundai Creta, we have the SX variant with the diesel engine option. The ex-showroom price for Mahindra XUV700 AX5 is ₹14,99,000 while the Hyundai Creta SX diesel will cost you ₹15,09,000 (ex-showroom).

Mahindra XUV700 AX5 Vs Hyundai Creta SX Diesel | Which car offers better performance?

Engine mStallion 2.0-litre TGDi 1.5-litre U2 CRDi Diesel
Power  200ps@5,000rpm 115ps @4,000rpm
Torque 380Nm@1,750-3,000rpm 250Nm @1,500-2,750rpm
Transmission 6-speed manual 6-speed Manual

A bigger engine surely commands better performance in the XUV700. It also offers the adrenaline rush that one might expect. The engine is refined. On the other hand, Hyundai is known for the level of refinement in diesel engines and the smaller engine has got enough power and torque, though not as much as that of the XUV700. But, do note that the bigger engine will be less fuel-efficient. Hyundai on the other hand will offer you better mileage. So, if you are considering buying a car, make sure that you plan it while keeping in mind the fuel expenditure.

Dimensions, Design & Looks | Which SUV looks better?

When Hyundai launched the Creta back in 2020, the audience was divided into two opinions. One said that the design looks good while the other said that the first generation was better. Still, Hyundai has managed to remain on the top of the ladder.

Mahindra XUV700 takes a lot of hints from the XUV500 but has many new design elements such as the front fascia, the back profile, and the bigger wheels. Though, the audience is once again divided into two. What do you think about the design? Do let us know in the comments section below.

Height (mm) 1,755 1,635
Wheelbase (mm) 2,750 2,610
Wheel Size  R17 R17

XUV700 surely commands better road presence as it is lengthy, wider, and higher than the Creta. It also has a wider wheelbase which means a better room inside the cabin.

Now, both the cars come loaded with features, but, Hyundai Creta SX does miss on features like wireless smartphone connectivity, Amazon Alexa, smart door handles, etc. Mahindra XUV700 also misses on features like driver rearview monitor and paddle shifters. Overall, if you were to buy a car at this budget, the Mahindra XUV700 seems to be a better choice, though by a slight margin only.

Coming to the safety features, both the cars offer basic safety features like ABS with EBD, dual-front airbags, ESC, rear parking sensors and camera, and so on. Mahindra offers curtain airbags that are not available on the Creta SX variant. Both the SUVs offer rear disc brakes in this variant. Mahindra offers rear disc brakes right from the base variant.

Verdict: Is Mahindra XUV700 A Threat To Hyundai Creta?

Yes, it seems so. Though, Hyundai offers a better service network and services when compared to Mahindra as Mahindra’s service is still considered a gamble by many. While the waiting period of Hyundai Creta is up to 5-6 months, we’ll have to see what waiting period will XUV700 come with. Considering the global shortage and a waiting period of almost 10 months on the ongoing Mahindra Thar, we can expect a similar waiting period for it. So, should you go for the XUV700 or Creta?

You are getting better performance (though less fuel economy), a good amount of features, space, and road presence in Mahindra XUV700. Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, offers you a tried and tested platform with a better service network, and not to forget, it is also very comfortable and feature-packed though it lacks in performance.
