The much-awaited Skoda Octavia 2021 in its fourth generation is here. Octavia has been a symbol of class and premium in India and the 2021 iteration lives up to the standards set by its predecessors. Let’s take a look at what all it has to offer.

Skoda Octavia 2021: What powertrain options do you get?

Well, there are no options! You only get a 2.0-litre TSI engine that churns 190ps of power @4,180-6,000rpm and a torque of 320Nm @1,500-3,990 rpm. It is mated to a 7-speed wet-plate DSG. Do note that it is not the old DQ200 DSG that is known for its notorious nature. The power is insane and is distributed along the curve perfectly. You will be getting a shift-by-wire gear selector instead of the conventional one.

What about the dimensions?

Length (mm) 4,689
Width (mm) 1,829
Height (mm) 1,469
Wheelbase (mm) 2,680
Boot space (litres) 600
Boot space with the second row down (litres) 1,555

Now that is a massive boot space! And with the seats down, you get all the space you can ever think of in a car. The more than generous wheelbase offers a great space inside the cabin, be it the front row or the rear row passengers. Enough headroom is there, even for the tall passengers.

What about the features of the Skoda Octavia 2021?

Skoda being Skoda has offered a plethora of features with this notchback or sedan, whatever you would like to call it. You will be getting 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with smartphone connectivity (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) for starters. You will also get wireless charging, USB-C charging ports, electromechanical parking brake with auto hold, LED headlamps with twin DRLs, steering mounted audio controls and much more. Talking about the steering wheel, you get an all-new two spoke floating steering wheel that adds to the ultra-luxury of this sedan. Behind the wheel is the all-digital virtual cockpit instrument cluster.

You will also be getting a two-zone climatronic AC unit. As for the sound system, the L&K variant will get a 600+watts Canton Music system with 11 speakers and a subwoofer. You will also get an ambient lighting system that can be controlled according to your choice.

Skoda has played really clever with the excessive amount of features in Octavia 2021. The attention to every detail is praise-worthy. You’ll get smartphone pockets, a USB-C port in the rearview mirror for the dashcam, a logo projection, roller sun blinds, a net restraint system in the boot and cleverly thought cargo elements.

Is it safe?

Hell yeah! With 8 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESC, Adaptive front light system, Multi Collision Brake, Mechanical Brake Assist, Hydraulic Brake Assist, Anti-Slap Regulation, electronic differential lock and driver fatigue alert, you can be assured of safety.

You will be getting 3 colour options in the Style variant: Lava Blue, Magic Black and Candy White. In the Lauren and Klement variant, you will get two extra colour options: Brilliant Silver and Maple Brown.

Finally, the price and Rivals!

Skoda Octavia 2021 will only have one rival in India at present, the Hyundai Elantra. Skoda Octavia will be offered in two variants: Style priced at Rs. 25,99,000 and L&K at Rs. 28,99,000. Both the prices are ex-showroom.

Verdict: Should you buy it?

Skoda Octavia 2021: Should You Buy It?

Definitely yes! Although it misses on features like Sunroof (But then, every Maruti does!), ventilated seats (Not going to say that again!) and regular USB ports (You’re a 90s kid if you need one!), it still is one of the finest Skodas to get into production. The elegant design with a host of features and clever usage of every corner makes it a great option for those who are looking for a car within this budget. But yes, you’ll have to remember, it only has 137mm of ground clearance (What, potholes? What are they?) You don’t get any other option in terms of engine and transmission, but I think enough of complaining, if I were a guy with the money needed, I would have gone for the Skoda Octavia.
