Hyundai i20, the flag bearer of the premium hatchback segment has lost the race to Maruti Suzuki Baleno and Tata Altroz in terms of sales. All thanks to the high pricing, i20 is left with fewer buyers now. But things might change soon as Hyundai plans to launch a new base variant: Era for the premium hatchback. Thanks to the Auto Trend TV Youtube channel, we have got the details of what this variant will be offering. Let’s take a look.

Exterior: What’s going to change in terms of looks?

The first and the most prominent change that one can notice at a glance is the size of the tyres. The Era variant of Hyundai i20 will be getting 14” tyres with steel rims. From the front, one can deduce that you won’t be getting a piano black finish on the grille as seen on the Magna variant onwards. You won’t be getting projector headlamps too. At the rear, you will be able to notice that there are no LED taillamps in the Era variant.

Interior: What are you going to miss in the Hyundai i20 Era variant?

First of all, you won’t be getting any infotainment system or stereo/music system on the dashboard, there’s just an empty space there. You also won’t get any steering mounted controls. As for the keys, you won’t be getting a remote door lock/unlock. The instrument cluster however is similar to that of the earlier base variant: Magna. You do get a day/night IRVM. Other features that you will miss on are:

  1. Adjustable Steering Wheel
  2. Rear power windows
  3. Electric ORVMs
  4. Height adjustable driver seat
  5. Front cabin light
  6. Central armrest in front
  7. Rear AC vents
  8. Grab handles
  9. Boot lamp

You can expect to get the 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 1.5-litre diesel engine option along with a manual transmission. We can expect the ex-showroom price for the Era variant to start around 5.8lakhs. Will this aggressively stripped base variant help Hyundai i20 to regain its position in the segment? What do you think?
