Tata Punch Bookings Open

Tata Punch is the all-new Tata’s micro-SUV segment car. It is designed especially for the millennial generation as the name suggests i.e. Punch. The automaker has revealed its specifications, dimensions, and features ahead of the launch. The bookings for Punch start from today onwards with a token amount of ₹21,000 while the automaker will reveal the price by October 20th, 2021. Let’s look into Tata Punch as to what it has to offer.

How is Tata Punch any different from the current sub-4 meter SUVs in the segment?

According to Tata Motors, the following are the key points that make the Punch a no-compromise SUV.

Tata Punch revealed

Let’s Start with the Size: Tata Punch

The revealed dimensions say the Punch is 3,840mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,635mm in height. Also, it has a wheelbase of 2,450mm. Its boot capacity is 366 liters while the ground clearance is at 187mm i.e. competitively higher than its rivals. It features 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and its gates open at 90 degrees. Similar to Altroz, Punch is also based on the ALFA architecture while there’s a flat floor inside the car.

Its direct rivals are Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Punch is longer and wider than both of them. Also, Punch has the better ground clearance and the longest wheelbase among all. Its stance is upright while having a tall nose and heavy body cladding around the car. This gives a better SUV feel than its competitors.

Tata Punch: Design and Looks

Tata Motors wanted to bring the SUV elements from the Nexon and Harrier into the small Punch. It has got an SUV cladding all around the car. It gets a sleek bonnet with LED DRLs and a humanity grille. At the rear, you witness the LED taillamps. Tata Punch is based on the ALFA-ARC platform that is also used in Altroz.

Slightly offroad capable

It is truly a compact SUV with a no-compromise attitude as it gets 16-inch alloy wheels and a 187mm ground clearance. It is also capable of bit offroading as it gets an approach angle of 20.3 degrees, a departure angle of 37.6 degrees, and a ramp over angle of 22.2 degrees, and 370mm of water wading capabilities. Tata claims that the seating position offers 15-20% better visibility. It also gets 90-degree opening doors for better ingress and egress.

What About Performance?

Tata Punch comes equipped with a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder naturally aspirated Revotron engine with Dynaopro technology. It is capable of producing 113Nm of torque and 86hp of power. The buyers can choose either a 5-speed AMT or manual transmission.

The same engine is also being used in Tigor, Tiago, and Altroz. What’s new with Punch is that it additionally features an automatic engine start/stop feature to ensure fuel efficiency. Tata Punch is capable of going to 0-60kmph in just 6.5 seconds while 0-100kmph takes 16.5 seconds. There are traction modes offered like Tata’s bigger SUV models.
